Blackhawks Trade Deadline: Mangiapane and Draft Picks Arrive as Chicago Rebuilds

The Chicago Blackhawks continued their roster overhaul leading up to the NHL trade deadline, acquiring forward Andrew Mangiapane and a conditional 2027 first-round draft pick from the Edmonton Oilers in exchange for Jason Dickinson and Colton Dach. This marks the second trade between the two teams this week, signaling a significant shift in both organizations’ strategies.

Trade Details

In the deal finalized on March 6, 2026, the Blackhawks received Mangiapane and a 2027 first-round pick, which is top-12 protected. If the Oilers select within the top 12 of the 2027 draft, they have the option to defer the pick to 2028. Yet, if Edmonton trades its 2028 first-round pick before the 2027 trade deadline, the 2027 pick will automatically transfer to Chicago. NHL.com

The Blackhawks now possess a substantial collection of draft picks, including five first-round selections and seven second-round selections over the next three years. Chicago Tribune This adds to the 11 first-round and five second-round picks acquired over the previous four seasons, potentially giving the Blackhawks 16 first-round and 12 second-round picks in seven years.
