Bluepoint Games’ Bloodborne Remake Pitch Rejected Amidst Sony Restructuring

The highly anticipated Bloodborne remake, a project long desired by PlayStation fans, reportedly faced rejection from Sony despite a pitch from Bluepoint Games prior to the studio’s closure in early 2026. The cancellation is linked to shifting corporate priorities at Sony and a complex relationship with FromSoftware, the original developer of the gothic horror title.

Bluepoint’s Pitch and Sony’s Response

According to reports from DetectiveSeeds, a team within Bluepoint Games dedicated several months to developing a pitch for a Bloodborne remake. While the project never received official approval, Bluepoint believed it could be their next major undertaking. But, internal complications involving Sony and FromSoftware, coupled with a broader shift in Sony’s corporate strategy, ultimately led to the pitch being withdrawn.

Sony’s Changing Strategy and Bluepoint’s Closure

The rejection of the Bloodborne remake pitch occurred against a backdrop of significant change at Sony. The company has been reassessing its approach to PlayStation studio acquisitions and project development, particularly in light of a move towards live service games. This shift in focus contributed to the closure of Bluepoint Games, a studio renowned for its high-quality remakes of titles like Demon’s Souls and Shadow of the Colossus. Approximately 70 employees lost their jobs as a result of the studio’s shutdown.

A Fragile Relationship with FromSoftware

The decision to reject Bluepoint’s pitch was also influenced by a “fragile relationship” between Sony and FromSoftware. Despite Sony holding shares in FromSoftware and its parent company, Kadokawa, the relationship reportedly fractured following the development of Demon’s Souls. FromSoftware’s recent multiplatform releases, including Elden Ring, and the announcement of a Nintendo Switch 2 exclusive title, The Duskbloods, further demonstrate a shift away from PlayStation exclusivity.

The Future of a Bloodborne Remake

With the closure of Bluepoint Games and the reported complications with FromSoftware, the prospect of a Bloodborne remake appears increasingly unlikely. Bluepoint was widely considered the logical choice to lead the development of a remake, given their expertise in modernizing Souls-like games. The cancellation has sparked frustration among fans who have long requested a remake to address the original game’s performance limitations and enhance its visual fidelity.
