Body Found in Manorville, Long Island; Search Continues for Missing Grandmother

A body was discovered in a wooded area of Manorville, Long Island, on February 11, 2026, prompting a homicide investigation. The discovery occurred while police were searching for Kathleen Harrison Trent, a 63-year-old Riverhead resident who has been missing since January 29, 2026.

Search for Kathleen Trent Continues

Kathleen Trent was reported missing by her son. Suffolk County Police Department describes Trent as a white female, approximately 5-foot-2 and weighing around 140 pounds, with strawberry blonde hair and blue eyes. She was last seen at her Riverhead residence.

Trent is well-known in the Riverhead community, having worked for 40 years at the Riverhead Raceway. John Ellwood, the Raceway’s general manager, stated Trent was “instrumental” to the facility, contributing to various roles from concessions to security.

According to Trent’s god-sister, Kelly Turbush, Trent routinely called her grandchildren every evening to wish them goodnight, a routine she failed to follow on the night she disappeared. Turbush expressed shock at Trent’s disappearance, stating she couldn’t imagine anyone wanting to harm her.

Trent’s truck, a 2017 Chevy Colorado, has been located by family members, though police have not disclosed its location.

Homicide Investigation Launched

The body found in Manorville is not believed to be Kathleen Trent. Homicide investigators recovered preliminary evidence suggesting the woman’s death was “criminal in nature.” The identity of the deceased and the cause of death will be determined by the Suffolk County Medical Examiner’s Office.
