Bolivia Receives Tax Exemption for Cancer and COVID-19 Medicine and Vaccine Donations
The Bolivian government, under President Rodrigo Paz, has authorized the tax-exempt entry of donated medicines for the National Program to Fight Cancer and COVID-19, as well as vaccines to bolster the Expanded Program on Immunization (EPI). This decision, formalized through Supreme Decree 5574, aims to strengthen the country’s healthcare response to both ongoing health challenges.
Donations Received
The tax exemption applies to a shipment of GLIVEC and TASIGNA medications, donated by MaxAid, a subsidiary of The Max Foundation, specifically for cancer treatment. A donation of COMIRNATY anti-COVID-19 vaccines from the Pan American Health Organization/World Health Organization (PAHO/WHO) will also benefit from the exemption, supporting Bolivia’s immunization efforts.
Government Action and Cabinet Details
The authorization was issued by the government of President Rodrigo Paz Pereira, who assumed office on November 8, 2025, following the 2025 general election. His cabinet, the 223rd in the Plurinational State of Bolivia, includes 17 ministers and is supported by parties including the PDC, Libre, Unity, and APB Súmate.
