Bon Jovi Biopic in the Works at Universal Pictures

Universal Pictures is developing a biopic centered on the early years of rock band Bon Jovi, according to Deadline, Entertainment Weekly, and Variety.

Formative Years to be Explored

The film will focus on the formative years of the band, tracing their rise from New Jersey origins to international stardom. Bon Jovi has sold over 130 million albums and earned induction into both the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and the Songwriters Hall of Fame.

Creative Team and Production

Cody Brotter, known for his Black List script Drudge and recent function on the crypto thriller Killing Satoshi, is writing the screenplay. The project is being produced by Kevin J. Walsh and Gotham Chopra, whose Religion of Sports produced the 2024 Hulu documentary series Thank You, Goodnight: The Bon Jovi Story, which had full access to the band members. Deadline reports that Jon Bon Jovi will be involved in the project and the film will have access to the band’s music library.

Band Members

The band’s founding members include Jon Bon Jovi, David Bryan, and Tico Torres, who remain with the group. Richie Sambora departed in 2013, and Alec John Such passed away in 2022. Variety notes that casting for these key members has not yet been announced.

Universal Pictures has previously produced successful music biopics, including Straight Outta Compton and 8 Mile. Deadline highlights this experience as a key factor in securing the project.
