Boston Legacy FC: Leading New England’s Soccer Surge in the NWSL

Fall colors, maple syrup, and challenging weather are often associated with New England. But a new phrase is quickly gaining recognition in the region: soccer expansion. The attractive game is on the rise, and Boston Legacy FC is poised to lead New England into this next major sporting era.

Returning to the National Stage

New England has a consistent history of regional pride and top-tier talent in both Major League Soccer (MLS) and the USL Championship. Now, as the 2026 season begins, the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) is investing in bringing world-class women’s soccer back to the area. Boston Legacy FC is ready to make a significant impact.

A Legacy Reborn

Longtime NWSL fans may remember the Boston Breakers, a historic franchise that helped shape the women’s soccer scene in the United States from the early 2000s until their dissolution in 2018. Following the league’s evolution and the Breakers’ eventual folding, strong regional demand for women’s soccer led to the emergence of a new club to carry the torch.

Core Values: Integrity, Belonging, Style, and Grit

Boston Legacy FC is built upon four key pillars: integrity, belonging, style, and grit. These core values define the team’s focus both on and off the pitch. The club recently unveiled a secondary kit, the “Common Ground” kit, which embodies the pillar of belonging. The kit features an outline of Boston’s 23 distinct neighborhoods, symbolizing community support and a shared cause.

Building a Roster of Trailblazers

The club’s roster includes several recognizable names for NWSL fans. Goalkeeper Casey Murphy and forward Nichelle Prince are standout players prepared for the upcoming schedule. The team’s athletic advisory board features U.S. Women’s National Team veterans Sam Mewis and Kristine Lilly. Boston Legacy boasts an all-women-led advisory board and ownership group, setting a high standard for impact within the league and the community.

Historic Debut and Future Home

Boston Legacy FC’s inaugural season officially kicks off on Saturday, March 14, 2026, with a home match against the reigning NWSL champions, NJ/NY Gotham FC, at Gillette Stadium. The match is scheduled for 12:30 PM ET and will be broadcast on ABC. Hometown legends New Kids on the Block will perform a halftime show. Over 20,000 tickets have already been sold.

While Gillette Stadium will serve as the team’s temporary venue for the first season, Boston Legacy FC plans to move to its permanent home at a renovated White Stadium in 2027. The club will too play games at Centreville Bank Stadium due to scheduling conflicts at Gillette Stadium related to the 2026 FIFA Men’s World Cup.
