Portland State Men’s Tennis Opens Substantial Sky Play Against Montana State

The Portland State Vikings men’s tennis team will begin its Big Sky Conference schedule this Saturday, February 28th, hosting the Montana State Bobcats at the Tualatin Hills Tennis Center. The match is scheduled to begin at 10:00 a.m. PST.

Vikings Prepare After Non-Conference Play

Portland State concluded its non-conference matches with a 3-6 record, securing wins against George Fox, UC Santa Cruz, and Lewis-Clark State College. Sophomore Maas Schotanus currently leads the Vikings in singles competition, boasting a perfect 4-0 record with victories at both the second and third lines.

Bobcats Begin Big Sky Competition

Montana State enters the contest with a 3-4 record, having last played on February 5th against BYU. The Bobcats are looking to build momentum as they open their Big Sky season. Coach Mateus Ceolin emphasized the team’s focus on Portland State, stating, “Our sole focus has been on Portland State.” The match will begin at 11:00 a.m. Mountain Time.

Freshman Contributions

Freshmen Aarjun Pandit and Ignacio Ruiz are performing well in doubles for Portland State, holding a 4-2 record as a duo. Both players also have three singles wins each. For Montana State, David Ismanescu has a 4-1 record at No. 5 singles, and Ethan Masselis is 4-1 at the bottom ladder position.
