Reds’ Brady Singer Exits Spring Start Early with Blister
GOODYEAR, Ariz. – Cincinnati Reds starting pitcher Brady Singer exited Wednesday’s spring training game against the Colorado Rockies with a blister on his right index finger. The incident occurred during the top of the fourth inning, after Singer had thrown 51 pitches (35 strikes) over 3 2/3 scoreless innings.
According to reports, head trainer Sean McQueeney and acting manager Freddie Benavides came to the mound and the group departed together as Singer examined his finger. Singer downplayed the issue, characterizing it as a precautionary measure.
“It’s 100 degrees in Arizona and I had never pitched out here with it being this hot. I just didn’t want it to open up and all that,” Singer said, as reported by Redlegnation. “I felt good with where I was and kind of knew the situation, and obviously, didn’t want to make it worse. I’ll be fine. It’s almost gone anyway. I’ll take care of it and receive ready for the next one.”
Singer was originally scheduled to throw 75-80 pitches in the outing. Despite allowing the first two batters to reach base in the first inning and the leadoff hitter to reach in the second, he managed to work out of trouble, retiring seven consecutive batters before his exit.
“I’ve never had it happen. I don’t know if it’s the air out here being this hot or something like that,” Singer stated. “We’ll do some stuff for it, get some stuff on it and take care of everything. Everything else felt really good.”
Key Role in Reds’ Rotation
Singer is expected to be the third starter in the Reds’ rotation for the upcoming season. He led the team in 2025 in both starts (32) and innings pitched (169 2/3), posting a 14-12 record with a 4.03 ERA.
Looking Ahead
If Singer recovers as expected, he is projected to pitch in an exhibition game at Milwaukee on Monday and is currently slated to start Cincinnati’s third regular-season game against the Boston Red Sox on March 29 at Great American Ball Park.
