Brian Austin Green Reflects on Early Career Setback: Being Fired From ‘My Two Dads’
Before achieving fame as David Silver on Beverly Hills, 90210, Brian Austin Green experienced an early career challenge: being let move from the NBC sitcom My Two Dads. The actor shared the story on the March 16, 2026, episode of the “Pod Meets World” podcast, hosted by Rider Strong, Danielle Fishel, and Will Friedle.
Early Dismissal From NBC Sitcom
Green, now 52, recounted his experience on My Two Dads, which aired from 1987 to 1990. “I was on one episode of My Two Dads and it was the only time that I was ever fired,” he revealed. He explained that during a run-through of a scene with Staci Keanan and another actor, he struggled with the timing, leading to the decision to recast his role. “I was really new to sitcoms and I just didn’t completely understand the timing of it and … they were like, ‘We’re going to have to recast.’”
A Creator’s Direct Approach
The display was created by Michael Jacobs, who also went on to create and produce Boy Meets World. Green detailed that Jacobs personally informed him of the decision. “It was very specific,” Green said. “He came out and we were sitting in a restaurant, doing a scene sitting at a table, and he kept giving me these line readings of exactly what he wanted and I couldn’t do it exactly that way, and that was it.”
Concerns and Reassurance
At the time of his dismissal, Green’s primary concern was whether he would still be paid for his work. “I was so young, I was like, ‘OK, I still get paid for this day, right?’ That’s all I really cared about at that point,” he recalled. Danielle Fishel, who played Topanga Lawrence on Boy Meets World, offered Green reassurance, sharing that Jacobs had also threatened to fire her after her first day of work, as she was replacing a previously fired actor. “If there’s one gift I can provide you, I would just like for you to know, it wasn’t you,” Fishel told Green.
Looking Back
Green admitted that it was “good to know now” that the firing wasn’t a reflection of his talent. He joked, “It’s affected me for a long time. I can’t wait to notify my therapist.”
