Brigitte Bardot, teh internationally renowned French actress and animal rights activist, has died at the age of 91. Her death was reported by Agence France-Presse (AFP) on April 23, 2024.

Bardot rose to prominence in the 1950s and 1960s, becoming a symbol of French allure and a leading figure of the Nouvelle Vague cinema movement. She starred in numerous critically acclaimed films, captivating audiences with her beauty and talent.

Early in her career, Bardot gained widespread recognition for her role in And God Created Woman (1956), directed by Roger Vadim, which propelled her to international stardom. She subsequently collaborated with some of French cinema’s most celebrated directors, including Louis Malle in Viva Maria! (1965) and Jean-Luc Godard in Le Mépris (1963). Her performances often challenged societal norms and explored themes of female liberation.

In later life, bardot became a dedicated advocate for animal welfare, founding the Fondation Brigitte Bardot in 1986. She dedicated much of her time and resources to protecting animals and campaigning against animal cruelty.

Bardot will be buried in Saint-Tropez, on the French Riviera, a town with which she had a long and significant connection.
