Brim Financial Modernizes Manulife Bank Credit Card Portfolio

Canada-based credit card platform provider Brim Financial has reached an accord with Manulife Bank to modernize its platform and transition its credit card portfolio. Through this collaboration, Manulife Bank will migrate its credit card operations to Brim’s system, consolidating customer engagement, loyalty programs, servicing, processing, and card issuing into one unified operating framework.

The deployment extends beyond retail banking customers. Manulife Bank’s independent advisors, mortgage specialists, and customer-facing teams will utilize Brim’s digital customer journeys to strengthen connections throughout the bank’s operations. Katy Boshart, President and CEO of Manulife Bank, said the partnership allows the bank to offer customers a more cohesive, transparent, and personalized digital experience, supported by insights that simplify everyday banking. She added that Brim’s technology supports the bank’s digital foundation and wider transformation.

Industry Shift Away From Multi-Vendor Card Stacks

Card issuers are increasingly moving away from traditional issuer processing configurations that rely on multiple vendors and transitioning toward unified platforms that manage the entire card lifecycle. Rasha Katabi, Founder and CEO of Brim Financial, said financial institutions worldwide are reassessing their modernization strategies and recognizing that relying on several vendors can slow innovation and increase costs. Rasha Katabi noted that the collaboration with Manulife Bank illustrates how financial institutions are shifting toward a unified, embedded platform designed to foster growth, agility, and control.

Fintech competitors previously offered a modern suite of APIs that simply mirrored legacy issuer processor environments without addressing root obstacles to modernization. These legacy-mimicking alternatives required heavy engineering lifts, forcing clients to stitch together separate vendor ecosystems that led to uncertain implementations and slowed subsequent business growth. Brim differentiates its product by delivering a turnkey, intelligent platform embedded natively within the client’s physical and digital environments.

Brim's Partnerships Modernize Infrastructure

The Manulife agreement follows a series of previous infrastructure rollouts for Brim Financial across North America. In April 2021, Brim partnered with Canadian Western Bank to roll out its platform-as-a-service and credit card infrastructure.

Later, in December 2023, Brim formed a partnership with Mastercard to modernize credit card infrastructure for financial institutions in the United States. That agreement embedded Mastercard’s Open Banking capabilities directly across Brim’s platform architecture.
