Nepal Bus Crash: At Least 19 Dead, Including British National

Kathmandu, Nepal – A passenger bus veered off a mountain highway in western Nepal on Monday, February 23, 2026, resulting in the deaths of at least 19 people, including a British national. Approximately 25 others were injured in the accident.

Details of the Incident

The bus, which departed from the tourist town of Pokhara, fell approximately 200 meters (650 feet) from the Prithvi highway at Behighat in the Dhading district, about 80 kilometers (50 miles) west of Kathmandu . It landed on the banks of the Trishuli River. Around 44 people were on board at the time of the incident .

Among the deceased is a 24-year-old British national . Injured passengers include a New Zealander and a Chinese national . The Chinese embassy in Nepal has reported that another Chinese national is missing .

Rescue and Medical Response

Rescuers quickly arrived at the scene to extract the injured and recover the bodies. The injured are currently receiving treatment at the National Trauma Centre in Kathmandu . Authorities stated that only nine bodies had been identified as of Monday .

Investigation and Previous Incidents

The cause of the accident is currently under investigation by police officials . The hilly area has a history of deadly bus accidents; in 2024, two buses carrying 65 people fell into the same river, resulting in significant loss of life .

Regional government administrator Mohan Prasad Neupane confirmed that rescuers responded promptly and transported the injured to hospitals for medical attention .
