Britney Spears Arrested on Suspicion of DUI
Britney Spears was arrested on Wednesday night in Moorpark, California, on suspicion of driving under the influence, according to the California Highway Patrol. The incident marks the latest legal issue for the pop superstar.
Details of the Arrest
The California Highway Patrol pulled Spears over around 9:30 p.m. On Wednesday in Ventura County, approximately 50 miles northwest of Los Angeles, after receiving reports of erratic driving. NBC Los Angeles reports she was booked shortly after 3 a.m. Thursday and released shortly after 6 a.m. Thursday, according to jail records. Her vehicle was towed following the arrest.
Statement from Spears’ Representative
A representative for Spears released a statement calling the incident “an unfortunate incident that is completely inexcusable.” The statement, reported by CBS News and ABC7, continued, “Britney is going to capture the right steps and comply with the law and hopefully this can be the first step in long overdue change that needs to occur in Britney’s life. Hopefully, she can get the assist and support she needs during this difficult time.”
Family Support and Future Plans
The representative also stated that Spears’ sons, Sean Preston Federline and Jayden James Federline, will be spending time with her. “Her loved ones are going to come up with an overdue needed plan to set her up for success for well being,” the statement added.
Previous Legal Issues
This is not Spears’ first encounter with the law. In 2007, she was involved in a misdemeanor hit-and-run, which was later dismissed after she paid for the damages. The following year, she was hospitalized for a psychiatric evaluation, leading to a 13-year conservatorship overseen by her father, Jamie Spears. The conservatorship was terminated in 2021 following a widespread “Free Britney” movement.
Upcoming Court Appearance
Spears is scheduled to appear in court on May 4, according to CBS News.
Recent Activity
Since the termination of her conservatorship, Spears has primarily engaged with the public through her social media accounts, frequently posting videos of herself dancing on Instagram. Her account was unavailable at the time of reporting.
