Brown Softball Opens Season with Losses to Oklahoma State and Kansas City

SAN MARCOS, Texas – Brown softball began its 2026 season with a pair of defeats on Friday, falling to No. 19 Oklahoma State 14-0 in five innings and to Kansas City 3-1.

Oklahoma State Dominates in Season Opener

Brown had an early scoring opportunity against Oklahoma State in the top of the second inning. Maggie Foxx reached first on a walk and Maya Choksi followed with a double down the left field line, putting runners on second and third. However, a groundout to third base ended the inning.

Oklahoma State took the lead in the bottom of the second with a triple and a sacrifice fly. They extended their advantage with a grand slam in the third, pushing the score to 5-0. Oklahoma State added two more runs in the fourth inning, beginning with three consecutive hits, and then a two-run home run, increasing their lead to 9-0. They ultimately closed out the game in the fifth, securing a 14-0 victory.

Close Contest with Kansas City Ends in Defeat

The game against Kansas City was a closer affair, with three Bears recording hits. Maya Choksi drove in Brown’s first run of the season, and Jasmine Hsiao and Elli Thompson similarly contributed hits.

Edie Cobb pitched a complete game for Brown, allowing three runs and recording three strikeouts. Kansas City scored first in the second inning, capitalizing on a walk, wild pitch, and passed ball, followed by a single to take a 1-0 lead. They added two more runs in the third inning with a two-out single, extending their lead to 3-0.

Brown scored its only run in the fifth inning when Elli Thompson led off with a double. Maya Choksi then singled up the middle to bring Thompson home. Despite the late rally, the Bears were unable to score again, falling short in a 3-1 loss.

Brown continues play on Saturday, February 21, with games against Oklahoma State at 4:30 p.m. ET and Colorado State at 7 p.m. ET.
