Dodgers’ Brusdar Graterol to Miss Start of 2026 Season After Shoulder Surgery

GLENDALE, Ariz. — Los Angeles Dodgers relief pitcher Brusdar Graterol is not expected to be ready for the start of the 2026 season as he continues his recovery from shoulder surgery, Dodgers manager Dave Roberts announced Wednesday.

The 27-year-old right-hander underwent surgery in November 2024 to repair a torn labrum, shortly after appearing in three games of the Dodgers’ World Series victory against the New York Yankees. Roberts indicated Graterol will not be on the active roster for Opening Day.

Recovery and Recent Performance

Graterol’s 2024 season was limited to seven regular-season relief appearances (2.45 ERA in 7 ⅓ innings) due to shoulder inflammation and a hamstring strain. Prior to the injury, he had established himself as a key component of the Dodgers’ bullpen.

In 2023, Graterol achieved career highs with 67 ⅓ innings pitched and 68 appearances, posting a remarkable 1.20 ERA. Over his five seasons with the Dodgers, he has a career record of 11-9 with a 2.78 ERA and 11 saves, totaling 181 innings pitched.

Contract and Future Outlook

Graterol agreed to a $2.8 million contract in January to avoid salary arbitration and is eligible to turn into a free agent after the 2026 season.

The Dodgers acquired Graterol from the Minnesota Twins in February 2020 in a trade that sent Kenta Maeda to the Twins.

Graterol is a two-time World Series champion, having also won in 2020.
