Buc-ee’s Files Lawsuit Against Ohio Gas Station Over Mascot Similarity
Buc-ee’s, the popular Texas-based gas station chain, has filed a federal lawsuit against Ohio-based gas station chain Mickey’s (formerly Mickey Mart), alleging trademark infringement. The suit centers around Mickey’s mascot, Mickey the Moose, which Buc-ee’s claims too closely resembles its own beloved mascot, Bucky the Beaver. The lawsuit similarly challenges the similarity between the two brands’ names.
The Mascot Dispute
Buc-ee’s argues that Mickey the Moose’s design is strikingly similar to Bucky the Beaver, potentially causing consumer confusion. The company’s legal filing aims to prevent customers from mistakenly associating Mickey’s with Buc-ee’s. As of February 27, 2026, Mickey’s has not publicly responded to the lawsuit SlashGear.
Expansion and Branding
Buc-ee’s has been actively expanding beyond Texas and its branding, particularly the Bucky Beaver mascot, has been central to this growth. The company has previously taken legal action against other businesses it believes have copied its branding. In 2025 alone, Buc-ee’s filed suits against at least four other companies – Owl & Anchor, Prometheus Esoterica Inc., Born United, and Super Fuels – alleging similar infringements on its mascot or logo SlashGear.
Recent Legal Actions
One notable case involved Born United, which had copied Bucky’s image for a line of t-shirts depicting the beaver in tactical gear. Although some cases are ongoing, Buc-ee’s is actively pursuing legal avenues to protect its brand identity. The lawsuit against Mickey’s comes as Buc-ee’s prepares to open its first Ohio location in April 2026 SlashGear.
Mickey’s Rebranding
Buc-ee’s also points out that Mickey’s rebranded from Mickey Mart to Mickey’s in 2025 and simultaneously introduced the current iteration of Mickey the Moose. The timing of this change has raised questions, with Buc-ee’s potentially suggesting a connection to its announced expansion into Ohio SlashGear.
