Bugatti and Factor Unveil the $23,599 Factor ONE: Where Hypercar Engineering Meets High-Performance Cycling
In a collaboration that blends the worlds of automotive luxury and high-performance cycling, Bugatti and Factor have released the limited-edition Bugatti Factor ONE aero road bike. Priced at $23,599 USD (€25,799 Euro / $35,999 AUD), the bike represents a fusion of hypercar engineering principles and elite cycling performance, pushing the boundaries of design, and aesthetics.
A Shared Philosophy of Performance
Factor partnered with Bugatti, driven by a shared philosophy of “obsessive attention to detail and performance without limits.” Unlike many collaborations, the Bugatti Factor ONE deliberately eschews UCI (Union Cycliste Internationale) regulations, allowing for a “no-holds-barred approach” to design and aerodynamics. This freedom has resulted in several key differences from the standard Factor ONE model.
Key Design Features and Innovations
The most notable innovation is the redesigned front fork. The Bugatti Factor ONE features a wider fork stance than the standard Factor ONE, and significantly exceeds the UCI’s 115mm width limit. This wider design, coupled with a unique ‘wing’ and vent at the bottom of the fork, is engineered to enhance airflow management, reduce drag, and improve front-complete stability. Factor CEO Dave Gitelis stated that the project challenged them to rethink every assumption and push engineering boundaries, mirroring Bugatti’s century-long commitment to innovation.1
Beyond the fork, the Bugatti Factor ONE incorporates several high-end components:
- Wheels: Custom Black Inc Bugatti Hyper 62 wheels with full carbon-bladed spokes, shaving 100 grams off the standard aero wheelset.
- Crankset: A custom Carbon-Ti crankset.
- Saddle: A bespoke Selle Italia saddle.
- Tires: Blue Bugatti-branded Continental GP 5000 TT tires.
Aesthetic Refinements and Bugatti DNA
The bike’s aesthetic is heavily influenced by Bugatti’s design language. It features a distinctive two-tone split graphic, a signature element of Bugatti’s hyper-sports cars, with a glossy blue transitioning to a matte carbon finish. The Bugatti logo is prominently displayed on the down tube. The design aims for a “dynamic interplay of light and shadow,” mirroring the sculpted surfaces and aerodynamic forms of Bugatti automobiles.2
Positioning and Price Point
With a limited production run of 250 bikes, the Bugatti Factor ONE is positioned as a luxury item and a statement piece. The $23,599 price tag represents a $9,400 premium over the top-spec standard Factor One ($14,199 USD).3 While the bike offers some performance gains, particularly in aerodynamics, the price reflects the exclusivity and brand alignment more than radical technological advancements.
A Legacy of Collaboration
This isn’t Factor’s first foray into collaborations with prestige car companies. In 2012, they partnered with Aston Martin to create the Factor Aston-Martin One77. Though, the Bugatti Factor ONE represents a more significant design departure and a stronger emphasis on brand synergy.
Beyond Performance: A Symbolic Partnership
Bugatti International’s managing director of brand and licensing, Wiebke Ståhl, emphasized that the collaboration demonstrates Bugatti’s pursuit of excellence extends beyond hypercars into the realm of high-performance cycling.1 The bike serves as a symbol of the shared values and engineering prowess of both brands.
