Gabriel Bortoleto Faces Sao Paulo Grand Prix
Gabriel Bortoleto enters the Sao Paulo Grand Prix weekend balancing home-crowd expectations with the developmental realities of the Audi Formula 1 team.
After ten years, the Brasil returns to have two representatives in the Sao Paulo Formula Grand Prix, with Rafael Câmara joining Audi’s Brazilian driver Gabriel Bortoleto at the Autodromo Jose Carlos Pace for the weekend.
Racing in his second Formula 1 season at age 22, the Brazilian driver completed Friday’s practice sessions at the Autodromo de Interlagos in eighth place, according to Gazeta Esportiva.
Bortoleto told journalists in Interlagos that he felt comfortable with his car’s balance across both practice runs, noting that the colder weather conditions in the second session moved the car in the right direction. Gabriel Bortoleto ran among the top 10 in both free practice sessions so far in Interlagos, completing the activities in the eighth position.
Audi aims for competitiveness through 2027 and 2030
Audi currently sits eighth in the Constructors’ standings with 14 points, four points behind the Haas team, as reported by Estadão. Bortoleto and teammate Nico Hulkenberg have scored points in only 8 of the 19 races contested so far this year, with Hulkenberg holding 13 points.

VEJA reported that Bortoleto views 2027 as a consolidation year for the team, focusing on reducing mechanical failures and correcting hardware issues that affect starts. While the public goal for the Audi project targets full competitiveness by 2030, VEJA noted that internal efforts aim to reach that performance level sooner.
Managing Home Crowd Pressures
Reflecting on his experiences in Brazil, Bortoleto admitted to VEJA that his emotions took too much control during last year’s event, leading to an accident after a Sprint race maneuver he now considers unnecessary.
