McPHERSON,Kan.McPherson High School Basketball celebrated teh re-opening of the McPherson Roundhouse on Tuesday, January 6, 2026, with decisive victories over the Augusta Orioles in both varsity girls’ and boys’ matchups.

The Roundhouse, a cornerstone of McPherson High School athletics, was closed for 203 days due to flood damage sustained during the summer of 2025. The damage affected the court and underlying concrete,causing notable disruption to the volleyball season and the first semester of basketball. Repairs were completed just prior to students returning from Winter Break on Monday, January 5.

Girls’ Varsity Basketball

The Bullpup Girls’ team secured their second league win of the season with a 50-33 triumph over Augusta. McPherson established an early lead, ending the first quarter 9-8, and then dominated the second quarter with a 14-0 run to take a commanding 23-8 lead at halftime. While Augusta mounted a challenge in the second half, they were unable to overcome McPherson’s significant advantage.

Brooke Doile led all scorers with a season-high 17 points, while Rylie Whitfield contributed 12 points, shooting a perfect 4-for-4 from three-point range.

With this win, McPherson’s overall record improves to 3-5.

boys’ Varsity Basketball

the bullpup Boys’ team ended a four-game losing streak with a 60-55 victory against Augusta, marking their first league win of the season. McPherson built a lead of up to 12 points in the second half, but Augusta fought back to keep the game competitive. Strong defensive plays from freshman Eli Reasoner and junior Cole Cooper proved crucial in securing the win.

Reasoner had a standout performance, scoring a career-high 22 points, including 16 in the second half, and adding eight rebounds. Jett Pyle contributed 13 points, and Ashton Malm added 12.

The game also witnessed the return of senior Cade Strathman, a key player from the 2025 State Championship team, after recovering from an ankle injury sustained over the summer. Strathman finished with 3 points and 3 rebounds.

The Bullpup Boys now stand at 3-5 with a 1-1 record in AVCTL-3 play.
