Cam Newton Sparks Debate with Comments on Women’s Value and Family Dynamics

Former NFL quarterback Cam Newton ignited a social media firestorm this week after stating on the “It’s Giving” podcast that a woman’s value decreases with each child she has. The remarks, made on February 18, 2026, drew immediate criticism, particularly given Newton’s own status as a father to nine children with three different women.

Newton’s Controversial Statement

During a discussion about relationships and blended families, podcast host Sarah Fontenot asked Newton whether a woman’s value is diminished by having multiple children with multiple partners. Newton responded affirmatively, stating, “Women’s value acquire lower the more children that they have.” BlackSportsOnline first reported the story.

A Complex Family Life

Newton’s comments are particularly noteworthy considering his personal life. He shares four children with ex-fiancée Kia Proctor – Chosen, Reign-Siri, Camidas, and Cashmere – and also maintains a parental role with Proctor’s daughter, Shakira, from a previous relationship. He has two children, a son named Caesar and a daughter named Exuma, with La Reina Shaw, and also considers Shaw’s eldest son, Jaden, his own. Currently, Newton is in a relationship with Jasmin “Watch Jazzy” Brown, with whom he has two children. AOL reported on the backlash.

Emphasis on Shared Responsibility

Despite the controversial statement, Newton emphasized the importance of a partner accepting a woman’s children if they choose to date a mother. He recounted advising one of his children’s mothers that a potential partner unwilling to embrace all five of her children “ain’t the guy for you.” He added, “When I came into your life, I was willing to accept you and whatever you had.” Newton described his family structure as a “family business” and asserted, “All them children… they’re my responsibility.” MSN detailed this aspect of the interview.

Podcast Cancellation

Separately, Newton’s BET+ show, “106 & Sports,” was recently cancelled. Launched on October 15, 2025, the series, co-hosted with Ashley Nicole Moss, aimed to recapture the spirit of the original “106 & Park” by blending sports debate with music and fashion. The cancellation was attributed to the show’s inability to generate sufficient digital engagement to offset its high production costs. Remaining episodes are still available for streaming on BET platforms. Times of India also covered the story.
