Josh Simmons Ordered Out of Team Meeting
Kansas City Chiefs left tackle Josh Simmons was told to leave a Wednesday team meeting by head coach Andy Reid and quarterback Patrick Mahomes after a back-and-forth over his posture. Simmons, who hasn’t played this season and was placed on injured reserve on Thursday, was sitting with his feet up when Reid asked him to put his feet down, according to ESPN.
The exchange escalated when Simmons stated he was sitting that way because of a back injury. Reid told him that if he couldn’t sit upright, he should leave and get treatment from the training staff. As the two went back and forth, Mahomes told Simmons he should leave and stop disrupting the meeting. Simmons complied and later apologized to Reid and team leaders.
Chiefs clarify Simmons' practice absence
On Wednesday’s injury report, the Chiefs listed Simmons as not practicing because of “back/not injury related-personal.” That designation suggested his absence stemmed from a combination of his back injury and the dispute with Reid. However, Chiefs vice president of sports medicine and performance Rick Burkholder said the personal reason was the team giving Simmons time to talk with his family and agents about how to proceed with his back injury.

The Chiefs drafted Simmons in the first round last year to protect Mahomes’ blind side for years to come. So far, Simmons has only played in eight games while missing 14. He hasn’t practiced since August, and the soonest he could return to the field is the Chiefs’ Week 11 game against the Cardinals.
