PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. – Cameron Young secured the victory at the 2026 Players Championship, overcoming a challenging final round and a tightly contested finish against Matthew Fitzpatrick. The tournament, held at TPC Sawgrass, concluded with Young earning a $4.5 million winner’s check from the $25 million purse.

A Shift from Dominance: Åberg and Thorbjornsen Fall Short

Entering Sunday, the tournament appeared poised for a latest champion, with 26-year-old Ludvig Åberg holding a three-shot lead over 24-year-old Michael Thorbjornsen. Åberg, who previously won the 2025 Genesis Invitational, had fired a remarkable 9-under 63 on Friday, setting the stage for a potential breakthrough win. However, both Åberg and Thorbjornsen faltered during the final round.

Åberg’s lead began to slip with a bogey at the par-5 11th hole, followed by a double bogey at the par-5 12th. Thorbjornsen also struggled on the front nine, allowing others to enter the fray.
