Cardi B reportedly caused a disruption during rehearsals for her appearance as the musical guest on the 1,000th episode of “Saturday Night Live” after allegedly reacting strongly to a joke about Nicki Minaj, according to multiple reports.
The Incident
Sources claim that while preparing for her January 31 performance, Cardi B overheard a joke slated for the “Weekend Update” segment referencing Nicki Minaj’s recent public affiliation with Donald Trump. The joke, reportedly, did not directly mention Cardi B, but she allegedly became upset due to her ongoing feud with Minaj and previous instances of Minaj targeting Cardi B’s children on social media HotNewHipHop.
The situation escalated quickly, with Cardi B allegedly threatening to leave the show. Reports indicate she threw her phone at a television monitor and, in a separate incident, punched a screen in a producers’ office until it broke TMZ, NY Daily News.
The damaged screen required replacement, reportedly causing unease among the “SNL” staff. The joke was ultimately removed from the script Hot97.
