Queiroz Departs Ghana Post
Former Manchester United assistant coach Carlos Queiroz has ended his tenure with the Ghana national football team, citing inadequate infrastructure and a lack of support for the squad. Queiroz pointed to persistent issues regarding the professional environment required for elite players to perform at their best.
The departure follows a sharp decline for the four-time African champions. Ghana reached at least the semi-finals in six consecutive Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournaments between 2008 and 2017, but suffered consecutive group-stage exits in 2021 and 2024 before failing to qualify for the 2025 edition entirely.
Infrastructure Deficits Stifle Squad Potential
Queiroz remained firm that the playing roster possesses the raw talent necessary to compete at the highest international level, provided the administration implements proper systems. “Despite our commitment and efforts, the necessary conditions were not fully established, and our recent performance added to the decision to bring this journey to an end,” Queiroz stated.
The outgoing coach emphasized that rebuilding the supporting environment remains non-negotiable for a proud football nation trying to recover from its recent slump. “The talent and potential are there. With unity, support and the right environment, this generation can achieve great things for Ghana,” he added.
