Although new cars are selling better than ten years ago, compact cars are losing their popularity as the Czech ideal of a family car. what is it A high price? An unattractive offer? Or the simple lack of interest of people?
Our graph speaks clearly. In 2015, Czechs registered over 75,000 lower middle class cars. Compacts, aka cars in the category where the editors – unlike the Association of Automobile Importers – include the Škoda Octavia with Volkswagen Golf technology, took a third of the market.
For last year, which was stronger in terms of sales than the 2015 season, we can find twenty thousand less compact cars in the statistics of new car registrations than ten years ago. Brutal slide! Compact cars don’t bite off even a quarter of the pie.
What is behind it? Weak offer? Rising prices? Deviation of Czechs from the most popular segment years ago? As usual, it’s a mix of everything. So let’s take a look at him.
Sales of compacts |
Under 300,000 CZK
While in the first decade of the 21st century Czechs mainly bought small cars, ten years ago compacts were experiencing their golden age. This was primarily due to extremely low prices. These have decreased for new cars so that lower middle class cars can be had for the same amount as small cars a few years ago. Examples? In 2016, we could choose from more than a dozen bestsellers under 350,000 crowns, from Kia Ceed to Hyundai i30 to Ford Focus.
