Central College Routs Buena Vista 6-0 to Extend Winning Streak

“We played a complete game today,” Central College coach Mike Kobylinsi said after his squad secured a 6-0 victory over Buena Vista University on Tuesday in Storm Lake, athletics.central.edu reported. The dominant shutout pushes the Dutch women’s soccer team to a 12-1-1 overall record and marks their 17th win against the Beavers.

Buena Vista managed to keep the Dutch off the scoreboard for the opening 20 minutes before senior Josie Newton broke the deadlock in the 21st minute with her fourth goal of the season. Central then exploded before halftime, adding three more scores to take a commanding lead into the break. Junior Olivia DeVos tallied her 15th goal of the season, while Emma Klosterman and Sophie Caniglia each notched their first goals of the year.

Central Scores Three More Goals to Beat Buena Vista

Central maintained its relentless offensive pressure after intermission, putting three more balls into the back of the net. Freshman Lila Gwyn, sophomore Sami Anderson, and freshman Finley Baker each recorded a score to round out the 6-0 final. The Dutch entered the contest averaging nearly 3.5 goals per game.

Tuesday’s match carried a unique family storyline for Klosterman, who contributed both a goal and an assist against the program her father managed as head coach from 2002 to 2006. With the victory, Central has not allowed a single goal in the head-to-head series against Buena Vista since 2017.

League Tournament Berth and Upcoming Match at Loras

The Dutch had already secured their spot in the conference tournament prior to kickoff, holding a comfortable position with three regular-season matches remaining. “It was nice to qualify for the league tournament already prior to the match with three games left and today we built on that momentum with seven different goal scorers and another shutout in a comprehensive win,” Kobylinsi said.

Central turns its attention to an upcoming road test against Loras College scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 24, 2026, at 5 p.m. The Duhawks enter the matchup sporting an unbeaten 5-0-0 league record.

“Our record is a credit to our team spirit and belief as well as tremendous leadership,” Kobylinsi said regarding the team’s strong standing. “Our staff also has played a part in continuing our strong culture and consistency.”
