Medical Records Detail 157 Injuries at the 2026 Central Java Provincial Sports Week

The Pekan Olahraga Provinsi (Porprov) Jawa Tengah 2026 recorded 157 medical cases by Thursday, October 29, 2026, according to official figures from the event’s health section. The toll includes 121 outpatients treated at health posts, 22 athletes transferred to hospitals for serious injuries, and 14 cases requiring observation. Elhamangto Zuhdan stated that the data remains dynamic based on reports from the field, noting that outpatient visits account for about 77 percent, hospital referrals make up 14 percent, and observation cases represent 8.9 percent. The multi-sport competition, running from October 25 to 30 across the Semarang Raya region, brings together 7,999 athletes from 35 regencies and cities as a qualifier for the PON XXIV 2028 games.

Athletes requiring hospital transfers suffered severe physical trauma, primarily from contact sports. According to Elhamangto Zuhdan, head of the PB Porprov health section, the most critical cases involved broken nasal bones and heavy facial bleeding, with a high concentration of urgent referrals coming from Kota Salatiga. Elhamangto also explained that a majority of the cases requiring hospital transport are closely tied to severe physical injuries resulting from high-intensity sports activities, while noting that the medical team has not yet found indications of the cause of death for a silat athlete who passed away following surgery. The event also recorded two athlete deaths during competition week, involving a Jepara regency diving athlete and a Semarang City pencak silat athlete, though investigations into the exact causes remain ongoing. Ayudiah Rivana Tridiandinata, a 19-year-old pencak silat athlete from the Semarang City contingent, passed away on October 28, 2026, while receiving treatment at RS Primaya Semarang. Police also suggested that the family undergo an autopsy to determine the cause of death, but the family declined the request. Porprov is scheduled to conclude on Friday, October 30, 2026, with a closing ceremony in Kendal Regency, and data regarding athletes who died at the Porprov Jateng 2026 was compiled as of October 29.

Unusual Incidents Outside and Inside the Competition Arena

Medical staff responded to incidents occurring both inside athletic venues and during daily routines, with the health team generally providing first aid at the location before making any hospital transfers. Elhamangto Zuhdan explained that the seizure stemmed from a head impact that temporarily disrupted the athlete’s brain electrical activity, though medical exams ruled out a stroke and his condition subsequently improved. Elhamangto noted that for any matches involving body contact, the decision to stop play rests entirely with the match doctor, and medical personnel only step in once given a signal by the match doctors. Following the back-of-the-head impact, the referee administered a standard count before Kukuh was approached and treated. In a separate non-sporting incident, a chess player sustained a laceration to the head after slipping and falling inside a restroom facility.

KONI Central Java Evaluates Safety SOPs and Medical Protocols

Following the injuries and critical incidents, the General Secretary of KONI Jawa Tengah, Budi Santoso, announced a comprehensive evaluation of tournament operations alongside the Head of Dispora Jateng, sports delegates, and provincial federation leaders. KONI is pushing to strengthen safety standard operating procedures (SOP), ensuring that referees immediately stop matches for medical attention without waiting for standard counts, and increasing the deployment of ambulances, doctors, and paramedics at competition venues. Meanwhile, Budi Santoso stated that Kukuh Angga, the pencak silat athlete who suffered a seizure after a head collision, is showing positive progress after treatment at RS Primaya, noting that his physical condition, reactions, and overall state are good and he is already able to communicate.
