Central Lombok Authorities Seek Swift Arrest in Tourist Bag-Snatching

PRAYA, West Nusa Tenggara Province – Authorities in Central Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara Province, are urging police to expedite the arrest of a suspect involved in a bag-snatching incident targeting a Chinese national on Saturday, February 21st. The incident has raised concerns about its potential impact on the region’s tourism image and local economic growth.

Incident Details

The robbery occurred around 8:30 p.m. Local time on a small road in Kuta I Hamlet, Kuta Village, Pujut Subdistrict. The victim, identified as Rui Bao, was walking alone when an unidentified assailant on a red motorcycle snatched her bag and fled the scene. The stolen bag contained the victim’s passport, cash, a Chinese residence identification card, and a SIM card from China.

Official Response

Central Lombok District Head Lalu Pathul Bahri expressed regret over the incident and called for prompt action from law enforcement. “Hopefully the suspect will be arrested soon. This is the duty of law enforcement,” Bahri stated on Monday, according to reports. He emphasized the importance of maintaining safety for visitors to protect the region’s tourism sector, a key driver of local economic growth.

Central Lombok Police confirmed they are investigating the robbery. Police spokesperson Iptu Lalu Brata Kusnadi stated, “We remain committed to solving this case,” adding that officers immediately processed the crime scene and gathered witness statements after responding to the report.
