Why She Left the French Capital

After her mother’s death, Gainsbourg took a radical decision and left the capital, and even the country. “I wasn’t well in Paris,” she told Madame Figaro. It was in England that she put down her bags with her daughter: “I wanted to settle in a neighborhood I didn’t know too well, and in the end I found myself in the west of the city, where my uncle lived. When I was little, I spent my time at his place or at my grandmother’s.”
