Chow Tai Seng Celebrates International Women’s Day with Cultural Event in Chengdu
Chow Tai Seng, a luxury jewelry brand, recently hosted the first stop of its “Big Shot Private Meetings” series in Chengdu, Sichuan, China, on March 8th, coinciding with International Women’s Day. The event, a collaboration with the cultural communication platform “Big Shots Talk,” aimed to explore the brand’s new concept of jewelry as “a wearable national treasure, a treasure that can be handed down from generation to generation.”
Exploring Female Empowerment Through National Treasures
The event featured Mr. Dongdong, a lecturer from the “Big Master Talk” platform, who delivered a keynote speech titled “Female Power in the National Treasure Context.” He focused on the stories of women represented in Bashu cultural relics, beginning with the “Portraits of Cars and Horses Crossing the Bridge” from the Han Dynasty, housed in the Sichuan Provincial Museum. This led to a discussion of the legend of Sima Xiangru and Zhuo Wenjun, highlighting Zhuo Wenjun’s talent, and courage.
Qin Liangyu: A Female General and Olympic Symbol
Mr. Dongdong also highlighted Qin Liangyu, a female general from the late Ming Dynasty, and her “Red Silk Plate and Gold Embroidered Python Coat” from the Chongqing Three Gorges Museum. As the only female general with officially recorded military achievements in Chinese history, Qin Liangyu’s image, specifically the phoenix pattern on her garment, was featured on the attire of Beijing Olympic Games torchbearers in 2008, bringing Chinese cultural symbols to a global audience.Chow Tai Seng
National Treasure-Inspired Jewelry Collection
The event showcased Chow Tai Seng × National Treasure’s “National Treasure Cultural Collection Gold” jewelry line. The collection draws inspiration from national treasures and cultural relics, transforming cultural heritage into wearable art. The “Yunjin Brocade Series,” developed in collaboration with Jin Wen, a representative inheritor of the Yunjin National Intangible Cultural Heritage, featured designs inspired by the golden threads of Yunjin looms. A key piece, the brocade dragon and phoenix sachet, incorporated the phoenix pattern from Qin Liangyu’s coat, symbolizing peace, success, good fortune, and health.
Eastern Aesthetics and Immersive Experiences
The Jinshang Fanghua fan ornament, also displayed, was inspired by the “Hundred Flowers Picture Scroll” of the Southern Song Dynasty. The design, shaped like a begonia flower, symbolizes wealth and nobility. The event incorporated immersive experiences, including traditional Chinese music, a gold foil handmade experience, and an interactive “Treasure Lianliankan” game to connect consumers with the origins of the jewelry and the cultural relics that inspired it.Chow Tai Seng
