Chris Robinson Covers Otis Redding on Jimmy Kimmel Live, Reflects on Black Crowes’ Rock Hall Nomination and Brotherly Reunion

Chris Robinson, frontman of The Black Crowes, recently appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live! to perform a soulful rendition of Otis Redding’s 1966 classic, “Fa-Fa-Fa-Fa-Fa (Sad Song).”

A Tribute to a Soul Legend

Robinson, backed by Rachael Price and the reveal’s house band, The Cletones, delivered a bluesy performance of the Redding hit. He explained to Jimmy Kimmel that Redding is his “favorite soul singer.” Robinson emphasized the influence of R&B, soul, and funk music on the Black Crowes’ sound, particularly growing up in Atlanta. Rolling Stone reports on the performance and interview.

Black Crowes’ Recent Activity and Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Nomination

The Black Crowes recently released their 10th studio album, A Pound of Feathers, produced by Jay Joyce. The band also received a nomination for induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in February. During his conversation with Kimmel, Robinson discussed both the new album and the nomination.

From Rejection to Reconciliation: The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame

Kimmel reminded Robinson of a 2017 statement where the musician declared he would not attend a Black Crowes induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. Robinson clarified that his perspective has evolved. He admitted to previously holding “negative” feelings about the Hall of Fame, particularly during a period when he was not on quality terms with his brother, Rich Robinson.

“Things definitely changed,” Robinson stated. “I wasn’t in the Black Crowes at that time I made that salacious comment. But it is true, the Black Crowes were kind of more famous, my brother and I, for hating each other than the songs and the music. It worked for Oasis. I don’t understand why it didn’t work for us.”

A Brotherly Reunion

Robinson and his brother Rich reconciled their differences and reunited the band in 2019. He described the reunion as a deeply “fulfilling and gratifying” experience. Jimmy Kimmel Live’s Facebook page features a clip of the performance and interview.

Influence on Oasis

Robinson recently told Nashville Now podcast that he believes the reconciliation between him and his brother Rich influenced the dynamic between Liam and Noel Gallagher of Oasis, leading to their own reunion in 2025. He stated, “There’s no doubt in my mind that we didn’t [influence them]. I don’t care what Noel or Liam say. They are that heavily influenced by how Rich and I’s relationship is going. I would say we’re the barometer to their family dynamic. That’s just a fact. And I’d like to spot either of them deny it.”
