Christer Falck Regrets Harsh Reaction to Son's Alcohol Use

Christer Falck Details Family Tensions Over Alcohol Abstinence

Christer Falck, a 56-year-old author and record producer, discussed his lifelong abstinence from alcohol and how his strict views shaped his family life in an appearance on the podcast My child-rearing hosted by Solveig Kloppen, dagbladet.no reported. Falck, who shares children Isak, 20, and Iben, 18, with ex-wife Synnøve Macody Lund, recounted confronting his son after discovering Isak had consumed alcohol during weeks spent away from his household. When the children were younger, they lived alternating weeks with Christer and with their mother, who split up in 2011.

Parental Friction and Regret Over Strict Discipline

Falck acknowledged that his absolute stance on alcohol created tension at home during his children’s upbringing. When his son Isak, now 20, drank alcohol despite growing up in a household where the substance was banned, Falck admitted to giving him the silent treatment for several days. Falck stated in the podcast that he later regretted being so harsh, explaining that his reaction stemmed entirely from viewing alcohol as poison rather than wanting to punish his son unfairly, dagbladet.no reported. The former “Robinson” host also reflected on his own youth, noting that he avoided peer pressure between the ages of 15 and 17 by playing badminton or staying home with family instead of attending drinking parties. He has previously characterized people who drink as less intelligent and subhumans, while arguing that alcohol is a much greater problem for individuals and society than other drugs, adding that he has never tasted alcohol and considers it an expensive nuisance that turns people into a worse version of themselves.

Falck Receives Support for Staying Sober

Having maintained his avowed avholdsmann (teetotaler) status throughout his life, Falck told the podcast host that he now regularly receives supportive messages from listeners and viewers praising his choice to stay completely sober. He noted that he has not encountered direct criticism regarding his lifestyle since turning 40, though he actively avoids social events where drinking is the primary focus. Despite facing early social friction as a teenager, Falck maintains that social gatherings relying on alcohol as a social lubricant are artificial, arguing that conversations and humor do not genuinely improve under the influence.
