Christian Jidayi, Former Cesena Player, Dies at 38

Christian Jidayi, a former Italian footballer who played for clubs including Cesena, Bellaria, and Forlì, has died at the age of 38. He was currently serving as an agent with the Ravenna Provincial Police.

Career and Recent Service

Jidayi began his professional career with Cesena in 2005, making his Serie B debut two years later. He played as a right-back throughout his 11-year career, also featuring for Novara, Aurora Pro Patria 1919, and Forlì. He was part of the Novara squad that reached Serie A in 2011-12, though he did not play in the league that season.

After retiring from professional football, Jidayi joined the police force. He served in Gambettola until last July before transferring to the Ravenna Provincial Police. His brother, William Jidayi, also a former footballer who played for Ravenna, currently works as a seasonal agent with the Ravenna local police.

Circumstances of Death

Jidayi was reported missing after failing to report for duty on Tuesday. Colleagues alerted family members, who then filed a missing person report. His body was discovered around midnight on Tuesday/Wednesday in the pinewood of Lido Adriano, near a church. The discovery was made possible through cell phone tracking conducted by the fire department.

Carabinieri are investigating the circumstances surrounding his death. RavennaToday reports that the scene suggests a possible suicide, though this has not been officially confirmed.

Reactions

Valentina Palli, President of the Province of Ravenna, expressed deep sorrow, stating, “With profound grief, the entire Province stands with the family of colleague Christian Jidayi on the day of his passing. A police officer, a young father, and an athlete, we want to remember him with a final embrace.”

The death of Christian Jidayi echoes a similar tragedy from eight years prior, involving Simone Rispoli, a former Ravenna captain who also took his own life in a public park. RavennaEdIntorni
