Cilacap Regent Syamsul Auliya Rachman Arrested by KPK
Jakarta, Indonesia – The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) arrested Cilacap Regent Syamsul Auliya Rachman on Friday, March 13, 2026, in a hand-capture operation (OTT). This marks the ninth arrest operation conducted by the KPK this year and the third during the month of Ramadan 1447 Hijriah.
Details of the Arrest
Deputy Chairman of the KPK, Fitroh Rohcahyanto, confirmed the arrest. As of Friday afternoon, the KPK has 24 hours to determine the legal status of those arrested, including Regent Rachman, in accordance with the Indonesian Criminal Procedure Code (KUHAP).
Background on Syamsul Auliya Rachman
Syamsul Auliya Rachman was born on November 30, 1989, in Cilacap. He is an alumnus of the Indonesian Government Administration Institute (IPDN) from 2008. He furthered his education, earning a Master’s degree from Jenderal Soedirman University (Unsoed) and a doctoral degree from IPDN.
Rachman is a politician from the National Awakening Party (PKB) and was serving as the Bupati (Regent) of Cilacap for the 2025-2030 period. He was elected alongside Ammy Amalia Fatma Surya, garnering 414,533 valid votes in the 2024 Regional Elections. Prior to becoming Regent, Rachman served as the Vice Regent of Cilacap.
Recent KPK Activity
This arrest follows closely on the heels of another KPK operation on March 9, 2026, which led to the arrest of Muhammad Fikri Thobari, the Regent of Rejang Lebong, on suspicion of corruption.
