Civico Istituto Musicale Luigi Folcioni launches second edition of Salotti Musicali

The Civico Istituto Musicale Luigi Folcioni is launching the second edition of its “Salotti Musicali” concert and lecture series. Conceived by Gabriele Duranti, a pianist, and Emanuele Fiammetti, a composer and cellist, the program follows a successful first season focused on nocturnal music by expanding into two multi-part thematic cycles and two special evening events.

Two Thematic Concert Series Span Classical and Modern Eras

The upcoming season features nine total sessions divided into two distinct historical blocks. The first series, titled “Quando la musica divenne arte,” explores Ludwig van Beethoven’s transition from occasion-based composition to personal artistic expression. It spans four sessions scheduled for October 15, October 29, November 12, and November 26. The second series, “La vita straordinaria di Igor Stravinskij,” covers the 20th century from tsarist Russia to the Ballets Russes in Paris and jazz-influenced American academic rigor across five sessions on March 4, March 18, April 1, April 15, and April 29.

Special Performances Focus on Verdi and Vocal Chamber Music

Alongside the main lecture-concerts, the Folcioni institute scheduled two special evenings for local audiences and subscribers. A free public session on Thursday, December 3, explores Giuseppe Verdi’s Otello, aligning with the opera’s opening night at Milan’s Teatro alla Scala under conductor Myung-Whun Chung and director Damiano Michieletto. Additionally, a February 18 session is reserved for subscribers to either of the main series, offering an exploration of the Lied and vocal chamber music in collaboration with Sandra Vanni, a soprano and lyric singing teacher at the Folcioni institute.
