CMPDI IPO: Coal India’s Consultancy Arm Set to Launch Public Offering
Central Mine Planning and Design Institute Limited (CMPDI), the consultancy arm of Coal India Limited, is preparing to launch its Initial Public Offering (IPO) on March 20, 2026. The IPO will close on March 24, 2026, offering a total of 10.71 crore shares through an offer for sale (OFS).
IPO Details and Structure
The IPO consists entirely of an OFS, meaning CMPDI will not receive any proceeds from the offering. Instead, the funds raised will go to the selling shareholders, which include the government and Coal India Limited. The shares will be listed on both the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) and the National Stock Exchange (NSE), with a tentative listing date of March 30, 2026.
The allocation structure for the IPO is as follows:
- Qualified Institutional Buyers (QIBs): 50%
- Retail Investors: 35%
- Non-Institutional Investors: Minimum 15%
The IPO will also include reservation categories for shareholders and employees of Coal India.

As of March 2025, the company operated a large fleet of exploratory drilling equipment for coal and mineral exploration in India. The company has demonstrated expertise in designing large-scale mining projects, including open-cast mines with production capacities of up to 85 million tonnes annually and mining depths reaching 420 metres. CMPDI also operates eight laboratories specializing in coal testing and quality analysis and participates in mineral exploration initiatives supported by the National Mineral Exploration Trust (NMET). As of December 2025, it had submitted 11 exploration proposals for minerals like bauxite, copper, magnetite, and zinc, with six projects approved and four completed.
Financial Performance
CMPDI has shown consistent financial growth in recent years. The company reported revenue of ₹2,177 crore in FY25, an increase from ₹1,770 crore in FY24. Profit after tax rose to ₹667 crore in FY25, compared to ₹503 crore in the previous fiscal year. For the nine months ending December 2025, CMPDI posted revenue of ₹1,544 crore and a profit after tax of ₹425 crore.
