Lt. Governor Primavera Highlights Accessibility at U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Museum

Colorado Lt. Governor Dianne Primavera recently visited the U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Museum in Colorado Springs to emphasize the importance of accessibility and celebrate the achievements of American athletes at the 2026 Winter Olympics and the upcoming Winter Paralympics. The visit underscored the state’s commitment to inclusivity and its role as a hub for Olympic and Paralympic athletes.

A Focus on Accessibility and Inclusion

During her visit on Friday, Lt. Governor Primavera toured the museum alongside Tommy Schield, Chief Marketing Officer, and observed the museum’s universally designed exhibits. The U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Museum, which opened in 2020, prioritizes accessibility to ensure a welcoming experience for all visitors, regardless of ability.

“Colorado has long been home to our nation’s greatest athletes,” said Lt. Governor Primavera. “From our world-class training facilities at high altitude to our commitment to ensuring every athlete, regardless of ability, has access to the resources they need to excel. We are proud to be the Olympic and Paralympic capital of America, and I am proud of the museum’s commitment to excellence, accessibility, and inclusion.”

Lt. Governor Primavera has consistently championed opportunities for Coloradans with disabilities throughout her career, advocating for policy changes, fostering partnerships, and promoting public service initiatives. Her efforts aim to integrate disability inclusion as a core value within the state.

Colorado’s Strong Olympic and Paralympic Presence

The United States achieved significant success at the 2026 Winter Olympic Games, securing second place in both gold medal count (12 golds) and overall medal tally. Colorado played a crucial role in this success, with over 30 athletes with ties to the state competing in the Winter Olympics or preparing to compete in the upcoming Paralympics – the highest number from any state in the nation.

Looking Ahead to the Paralympics

The Milan Cortina Paralympic Games are set to begin on March 4. Lt. Governor Primavera expressed her excitement and support for the U.S. Paralympians as they prepare to compete.

The museum is currently featuring refreshed exhibits highlighting the legacy of U.S. Olympians and Paralympians, as well as artifacts from the Paris Games. A novel slate of Board Directors and Officers began their terms on January 1, 2026.
