Dexcom Stadium Opening Pool Match
Connacht opened their Investec Champions Cup Pool Two campaign with a 45-36 victory against Saracens at a raucous Dexcom Stadium, as reported by BBC Sport. Despite sitting third from bottom in the United Rugby Championship table after three matches, Connacht crossed the try line seven times against the three-time Champions Cup winners.
Early Saracens Dominance and Connacht Response
The visiting Premiership club claimed a 12-0 lead early in the match following tries from Sione Vaenuku and Noah Caluori. Connacht answered with 19 unanswered points to seize the lead through captain Cian Prendergast, Cathal Forde, and Shamus Hurley-Langton. Hurley-Langton received a yellow card just before halftime, allowing Saracens to equalize when Nick Tompkins scored from close range with the clock in the red, leaving the score tied at 19-19 at the break.
Second-Half Tries Seal Victory
Playing with 14 men, Connacht struck first in the second half when Bundee Aki set up Prendergast for his second try. Saracens responded quickly as Owen Farrell and Elliot Daly created an easy run-in for Rotimi Segun. Ciaran Frawley scored twice and replacement Caolin Blade added another to build a 14-point gap for the hosts. Center Vaenuku secured his second try for Saracens, but the deficit proved too steep to overcome.

Missed Bonus Points and Pool Context
Owen Farrell missed a late conversion attempt after Elliot Daly’s try, denying Saracens a losing bonus point. Connacht also missed out on an offensive bonus point, as tournament rules require teams to score three or more tries than their opponents in the pool stage. In the other Pool Two fixture on Saturday, La Rochelle defeated the South African side Lions 31-14. The Lions played that match following the death of teammate Hyron Andrews, who passed away at the team hotel on Friday at age 31.
