MidOcean Partners Backs Idea Financial With $225 Million Joint Venture
MidOcean Partners has formed a joint venture with Miami-based small business lender Idea Financial to provide up to $225 million in dedicated capital for larger loans, Pulse 2.0 reported. The transaction expands Idea Financial’s lending capacity to fund loans of up to $1 million for established small businesses, pushing past its traditional product offerings.
The newly launched capital vehicle addresses unmet borrower demand for larger and more flexible financing. Established small businesses often struggle to secure loans exceeding traditional credit limits from commercial banks, creating an opening for alternative credit providers.
Expanding Beyond Credit Lines After $1.5 Billion in Originations
Until the October 16, 2026 announcement, Idea Financial primarily offered lines of credit up to $350,000 and term loans to small businesses across 47 states. Founded in 2017 by Justin Leto and Larry Bassuk, the company has delivered approximately $1.5 billion in financing to more than 10,000 small and medium-sized businesses since inception, according to figures reported by Pulse 2.0. However, the company’s website notes a cumulative figure of approximately $1.4 billion.
The joint venture follows Idea Financial’s recent completion of an inaugural $100 million asset-backed securitization. That structured debt milestone paved the way for the lender to secure institutional backing from New York-based alternative asset manager MidOcean Partners.
“Idea Financial has built a disciplined, data-driven lending platform with a strong track record of growth and consistent credit performance,” said Teddy Tawil, Managing Director and Co-Head of Opportunistic Credit at MidOcean, in a statement provided to Business Wire. “Established small businesses need larger and more flexible financing than they can readily obtain from traditional lenders, and Idea is well positioned to meet that demand.”
“For years, our customers and applicants have been asking us for larger loans to fund their next stage of growth, and we’ve had to leave much of that demand unmet,” said Santiago Rubio, Chief Financial Officer of Idea Financial. “This joint venture with MidOcean gives us dedicated capital to say yes to the businesses that already know and trust us.”
MidOcean Builds Out Middle-Market Alternative Credit Platform
The transaction aligns with MidOcean’s broader strategy of deploying tailored capital solutions to specialty finance companies. Established in 2003 with a focus on private equity investments in consumer and business services, the alternative asset manager launched its credit platform in 2009. MidOcean further expanded its platform in 2024 by adding structured equity capabilities, allowing the firm to execute complex financing transactions across the middle market.
