Connectivity Assist Battery Drain Concerns After the iOS Update
Users installing the recent iOS update face unexpected battery drain issues, with technology outlet mobilmania.zive.cz reporting that a new feature called Posílené připojení may be the primary culprit. The setting, which replaces the former Wi-Fi Assist, attempts to stabilize internet access by combining Wi-Fi and cellular data when a wireless network slows down.
Operating both wireless modules simultaneously increases power consumption compared to using Wi-Fi alone. While Apple has not confirmed that the feature directly accelerates battery depletion, the company acknowledges it generates higher mobile data usage. The setting automatically activates during the update if the previous Wi-Fi Assist was already turned on.
Connectivity Assist Drains Mobile Data and Battery Life
The system routes a portion of DNS queries through cellular networks when Connectivity Assist remains active, causing local content filters and ad blockers to fail. Some device owners report losing gigabytes of mobile data in the background despite staying connected to a Wi-Fi network throughout the day. A user on Reddit noted that disabling the feature on an iPhone 15 Pro Max extended screen-on time from roughly three or four hours to seven hours.
Background tasks such as file indexing and app optimization commonly trigger temporary heating and faster battery discharge during the first few days following any major software installation. Device owners experiencing persistent power drain can isolate the problem by going to Settings, selecting Wi-Fi, and turning off the toggle at the bottom of the menu. Users can also disable the setting for individual networks by tapping the information icon next to a specific network name.
