Connor Storrie’s SNL Debut: Hockey, Trump Jokes and a ‘Heated Rivalry’ Reunion

Connor Storrie marked his first appearance as host on Saturday Night Live on February 28, 2026, delivering a monologue that blended humor about his breakout role in the queer hockey drama Heated Rivalry with pointed commentary on current events. The episode also featured a surprise reunion with his Heated Rivalry co-star, Hudson Williams, and a performance by musical guest Mumford & Sons.

Monologue Highlights: Hockey, Sexuality, and a Presidential Jab

Storrie began his monologue by acknowledging the show’s impact on his career, joking that Heated Rivalry had “taught a lot of people about hockey, and it’s taught a lot of straight women that their sexuality is actually gay men.” The Hollywood Reporter reports that Storrie admitted to being overwhelmed with emotion upon receiving the hosting gig.

The monologue took a political turn when Storrie referenced a recent video of the U.S. Men’s hockey team laughing with President Trump, who suggested the women’s team join them at the White House. U.S. Women’s hockey players Hilary Knight and Megan Keller joined Storrie onstage, delivering a playful but pointed critique of the situation. They quipped that the invitation was extended to “give them a little moment to shine,” and highlighted the disparity in recent wins – the women’s team last won two Olympics ago, while the men’s team hasn’t secured a victory in over 40 years.

‘Heated Rivalry’ Reunion on the Ice

Storrie’s Heated Rivalry co-star, Hudson Williams, made a cameo during a pre-taped sketch set on the ice rink at Rockefeller Center. Variety details the sketch, which involved a couple navigating a rocky proposal, while Storrie and other cast members celebrated on the ice. Williams’ entrance was met with enthusiastic cheers from the audience.

The duo also appeared together to introduce Mumford & Sons, further solidifying their on-screen chemistry and real-life friendship. Williams previously told The Hollywood Reporter that working on Heated Rivalry has given him “one of my best friends for life.”

Looking Ahead for Storrie and Williams

Both Storrie and Williams are experiencing a surge in their careers following the success of Heated Rivalry. Storrie is reportedly in talks to join the cast of the A24 comedy Peaked, while Williams is set to reunite with Crave for the Carrie-Anne Moss-led series, Yaga.

Heated Rivalry has been renewed for a second season, with filming scheduled to begin in August 2026 and a planned release in Spring 2027. The series, based on Rachel Reid’s “Game Changers” book series, continues to captivate audiences with its compelling storyline and representation. Reid is currently working on the seventh book in the series, Unrivaled, with a revised release date set for 2027.
