Equinix, a global leader in digital infrastructure, is offering a Construction Project Management Internship designed to provide hands-on experience in the planning and execution of capital data center construction projects. This program aims to cultivate the next generation of professionals in the rapidly evolving field of data center infrastructure.
Internship Overview
The internship supports project managers throughout the entire project lifecycle, from initial design coordination and procurement to construction, commissioning, and project closeout. Interns will be involved in a variety of projects, including ground-up construction, tenant improvements, renovations, infrastructure upgrades, and efficiency initiatives. The role emphasizes collaboration with both internal teams and external vendors.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with day-to-day project management activities for capital construction projects.
- Support project teams through all phases of the project lifecycle.
- Track project schedules, budgets, and milestones.
- Coordinate with internal teams, including Design, Procurement, Site Operations, Security, and IT/Network teams.
- Support communication with external vendors such as general contractors, architects, engineers, and equipment suppliers.
- Assist with site inspections to ensure compliance with drawings, specifications, quality standards, and safety requirements.
- Document field observations and progress updates.
- Assist with contract administration, including document preparation and change order tracking.
- Monitor project expenditures and assist with cost tracking.
- Support schedule updates and review progress against planned milestones.
- Provide feedback on internal processes and participate in project meetings.
- Develop foundational knowledge of construction project management practices.
Qualifications
Equinix seeks candidates currently pursuing a degree in Construction Management or a related field. A strong interest in construction project management, capital projects, or data center infrastructure is essential. Successful candidates will demonstrate strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment. Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) is required, and experience with MS Project is a plus. Prior internship or coursework related to construction or project management is beneficial but not required.
