The pair, childhood friends from Carrigaline, are documenting their journey to inspire aspiring entrepreneurs and bring a healthy energy boost to the Irish market.

From Thailand to the Emerald Isle

The idea for Fíor Matcha originated during a trip to Thailand two years ago, where Hegarty and O’Connell observed the widespread popularity of canned matcha drinks. Upon returning to Ireland, they noticed a gap in the market. “Matcha is so popular over there and you can buy it in cans everywhere,” explained Hegarty to CorkBeo. “Here, you can obtain it in some cafes, but there’s no canned matcha.”

A Focus on Health and Local Sourcing

Fíor Matcha distinguishes itself through a commitment to both product quality and supporting the Irish economy. The beverage contains only five ingredients and no preservatives, catering to health-conscious consumers. “We’re both really into health and fitness so want to make sure this is a healthy way of getting energy and caffeine,” Hegarty stated. The company exclusively partners with Irish suppliers, reinforcing its dedication to the local community.

Launch and Future Plans

Fíor Matcha is scheduled to launch at Dublin’s Blackrock Market on March 28, and 29. The founders have ambitious plans for expansion, including potential stalls at the Marina Market, participation in Irish festivals, distribution to cafes, and placement in retail stores. They are actively sharing their progress on Instagram, where they have already garnered 30,000 views documenting the creation process.

Hegarty and O’Connell are receiving significant support from their hometown of Cork, with friends and family actively sharing their online content. “We’re getting amazing support, everyone’s sharing the videos,” Hegarty noted.
