Crimson Desert Receives Patch Addressing Control Issues and Gameplay Improvements

Pearl Abyss has released a new patch for Crimson Desert, addressing widespread criticism of the game’s controls and implementing a range of gameplay improvements. The update, version 1.00.03 for PlayStation and 1.00.02 for Xbox, aims to enhance the player experience based on community feedback received since the game’s launch.

Control Improvements

A primary focus of the patch is to refine the game’s control scheme. Players have voiced concerns regarding the complexity and unintuitiveness of both keyboard/mouse and gamepad controls. Pearl Abyss has responded by improving input responsiveness for general movement, aiming, and interactions. Specific changes include:

  • Improved interaction UI response speed.
  • Enhanced jump input responsiveness.
  • Aiming now targets the center of the screen when using a Lantern or when unarmed.
  • Increased Equipment Quick Slots to save current equipment selections.
  • Improved Main Menu UI responsiveness and fixed intermittent opening issues.
  • Keyboard/Mouse controls have been refined for improved responsiveness.
  • Default control options have been added for Guard/Aim (Side Button 1) and Evade (Side Button 2) for keyboard and mouse users.
  • Movement input is now retained when using Axiom Force with keyboard/mouse.
  • Fixed issues with duplicate key assignments and malfunctioning inputs in Shortcut and Input Settings.

The developer acknowledged the difficulties keyboard and mouse players have experienced, apologizing for the initial unsatisfactory experience and promising continued improvements. IGN reported on the developer’s commitment to addressing these concerns.

Gameplay Enhancements and Bug Fixes

Beyond control improvements, the patch introduces several gameplay enhancements and bug fixes:

  • Inventory and Storage: Personal Storage has been added, accessible in Hernand and at Howling Hill Camp, allowing players to store inventory items.
  • Resource Gathering: The time required to acquire knowledge has been reduced, and the observation skill now only requires one leverage to learn.
  • Combat: Force Palm is now available earlier in the game. The number of blows required to fell a tree has been reduced, and trees can now be felled with a basic swing.
  • Minigames: The difficulty of QTEs in the Arm Wrestling minigame and when pinned during Mount combat has been reduced. The Shooting and Archery Contest minigames have also been made easier.
  • World and Exploration: More Abyss Nexuses have been added to improve fast travel. The visibility of items providing knowledge has been increased with icons and tooltips.
  • Enemy and Boss Adjustments: The Health and Attack of certain enemies and bosses have been reduced. The accumulation of stun gauge on bosses has been increased upon successful parries.
  • Bug Fixes: Numerous bug fixes have been implemented, addressing issues with quests, NPCs, graphics, stability, and localization.

Patch 1.00.03 is currently available on PlayStation as of March 23, 2026, at 02:15 UTC. The Xbox patch, version 1.00.02, became available on March 23, 2026, at 08:15 UTC. Updates for Epic Games Store and Mac App Store are scheduled for a later date, as noted in the official patch notes.
