StarDream Cruises Imposes Fuel Surcharge Amid Middle East Conflict

Passengers sailing with StarDream Cruises – including those on the Genting Dream and Star Voyager – will face a fuel surcharge of $15 per person, per night, starting March 20, 2026. The increase is a direct response to rising oil prices stemming from geopolitical developments in the Middle East.

Rising Fuel Costs Drive Surcharge

StarCruises and Dream Cruises announced the surcharge on March 17, 2026, citing significant increases in fuel and related costs due to the ongoing conflict in the Middle East . The surcharge will be automatically added to the guest’s on-board account.

Surcharge Details by Region

The $15 surcharge applies to Genting Dream sailings from Singapore and neighboring home ports, and to Star Voyager sailings from Singapore and Port Klang, Malaysia. Additional surcharges apply to sailings from other regions:

• Hong Kong: A HK$200 (approximately $33 USD) surcharge will be applied to Star Voyager sailings.
• Taiwan: Passengers on the Star Navigator departing from Keelung, Taiwan, will pay a surcharge of NT600 (approximately $24 USD).

Impact on Bookings

The fuel surcharge will be applied to all latest bookings made on or after March 20, 2026 . The cruise operators have indicated that the surcharge amount will be reviewed in line with fuel price fluctuations and may be adjusted accordingly .

Other Travel Sectors Affected

The increase in fuel costs is impacting other transportation sectors as well. Ferry operators in Singapore have already implemented a fuel surcharge of $6 for one-way trips and $11-$12 for round trips to neighboring Indonesian islands . ComfortDelGro, a major taxi operator, has also raised metered fares and introduced a fee for app bookings to offset higher operating costs .

World Cruises Not Implementing Surcharge

World Cruises, which operates the World Legacy cruise, has stated that it currently has no plans to add a fuel surcharge, but will continue to monitor global market conditions .
