Cupra Leon VZ Gains Power Boost to 325 HP, Becoming Most Powerful Front-Wheel Drive Model

Cupra has increased the power output of its Leon VZ model to 325 hp, solidifying its position in the performance compact car segment. This makes the hatchback the most powerful front-wheel drive Leon in the brand’s history.

The updated Leon VZ is equipped with a 2.0-liter four-cylinder TSI turbocharged engine, producing a maximum torque of 420 Nm (309 lb-ft). This delivers enhanced dynamics for both everyday driving and more spirited performance. Acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h (0-62 mph) takes 5.4 seconds, while the VZ Extreme version can reach a top speed of 270 km/h (168 mph).

Power is delivered to the front wheels via a seven-speed DSG dual-clutch automatic transmission. To accommodate the increased performance, the model features improved chassis tuning and advanced steering.

The 325 hp engine is available not only in the VZ and VZ Extreme trims but also in the special Black Edition and Tribe Edition packages. However, Cupra has indicated that this more powerful version will be available for a limited time, making it an exclusive offering for enthusiasts.

Pricing for the novel Leon VZ starts at €50,585, representing a €1,300 increase over the previous 300 hp version. The combination of increased power, improved equipment, and limited availability is expected to develop this Leon VZ a desirable choice for drivers seeking maximum performance in a compact package.

The Cupra Leon utilizes the VW Group’s EA888 engine family. According to Evo, the EA888 engine variants are known for their broad torque delivery across the rev range.

A Reddit discussion on CupraFormentor highlights differences between the 2.0 TSI 190 hp and 245 hp versions, noting variations in exhaust systems and available driving modes.
