Da Nang Athletes Intensify Training Ahead of 2026 National Sports Games
Da Nang sports teams are accelerating preparations for the 10th National Sports Games, scheduled for November 2026 in Ho Chi Minh City. Athletes at the city’s Athlete Training and Development Center are focusing on physical conditioning, technical refinement, and tactical execution across multiple disciplines, prioritizing medal-contending events.
Daily Routine and External Training Camps
Track and field athletes like Nguyen Khanh Ly maintain a rigorous schedule of two sessions daily, combining speed work, 400-meter sprints, and 60-minute cross-country runs. To sharpen competitive edge against familiar rivals such as Bui Thi Oanh and Nguyen Thi Ngan, the squad is pushing technical boundaries.
Alongside local drills, specialized units have deployed across the region. Eleven athletes and their coaching staff are currently taking part in a training camp in the Kon Tum district, an initiative expected to conclude in early November 2026. Meanwhile, hammer thrower Mai Thi Yen and her teammates are concentrating on explosive strength, rotational mechanics, balance, and release timing.
Specialized Prep Across Disciplines
Other sports are expanding their technical scope. Twenty-six swimmers stationed in Dong Thap province since early October are refining endurance, velocity, and wall turns. The 21-member Da Nang karate squad recently completed a month-long joint training program alongside the Hanoi karate team.
Coach Nguyen Thanh Hai stated that the karate team aims to secure two gold medals, with the roster pushing to exceed that target. Overall, Da Nang’s sports delegation is projected to field approximately 520 athletes supported by over 100 coaches.
Administrative Support and Competitive Outlook
Tao Viet Hai, deputy director of the department, noted that the upcoming Games are expected to be highly competitive due to changing power dynamics among delegations and some top Da Nang athletes no longer being in their peak form.
In response, the department is maintaining comprehensive support for nutrition, medical care, and specialized policies for trainers and athletes. With these measures in place, the Da Nang delegation aims to maximize its core strengths when competition begins in Ho Chi Minh City.
