Dacia’s Hybrid-G 150 4×4: A New Era for Affordable SUVs

Dacia is expanding its lineup with the introduction of the Hybrid-G 150 4×4 powertrain, a first-of-its-kind system combining hybrid technology, bi-fuel LPG capability, and all-wheel drive. Available on both the Duster and Bigster models, this new powertrain aims to significantly reduce running costs and extend driving range.

A Unique Powertrain Combination

The Hybrid-G 150 4×4 features a turbocharged 1.2-liter three-cylinder engine with a 48V mild-hybrid system, capable of producing 138 hp (103 kW / 140 PS) and 230 Nm (170 lb-ft) of torque. Crucially, this engine can run on both gasoline and Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG). A rear-mounted electric motor adds an additional 31 hp (23 kW) and 87 Nm (64 lb-ft) of torque, bringing the combined output to 152 hp (113 kW / 154 PS).

Extended Range and Reduced Costs

Dacia claims the Hybrid-G 150 4×4 offers a potential driving range of up to 1,500 km (932 miles) thanks to the dual 50-liter (13.2-gallon) fuel tanks – one for gasoline and one for LPG. The company estimates that running costs can be reduced by up to 30% compared to gasoline-only versions, with CO2 emissions reduced by 20 g/km [1].

Technical Specifications and Drive Modes

The engine is paired with a six-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, a first for Dacia, featuring steering-wheel-mounted paddles. The electric motor utilizes a two-speed gearbox and can decouple the rear axle to conserve fuel. Drivers can select from six drive modes: Auto, Eco, Snow, Mud/Sand, Lock, and Hill Descent Control. Four-wheel drive is available up to 140 km/h (87 mph).

Electric Power and Battery

The hybrid system incorporates a 48V lithium-ion battery with a capacity of 0.84 kWh, recharged through regenerative braking. Dacia states that the vehicle can operate on electric power up to 60% of the time in urban environments, with a maximum electric speed of 90 km/h [1].

Pricing and Availability

In the Czech Republic, the Duster Hybrid-G 150 4×4 starts at 645,900 crowns (approximately $28,000 USD), even as the Bigster begins at 699,900 crowns (approximately $30,400 USD) in the Expression trim level. This represents an additional charge of 49,000 crowns (approximately $2,100 USD) compared to the previous four-wheel-drive models [1]. A hybrid four-wheel-drive version without LPG is expected to be available later in the spring.
