Netflix Orders Adult Animated Comedy ‘Dad’s House’ From ‘Smiling Friends’ Creator
Netflix is expanding its adult animation lineup with the addition of “Dad’s House,” a new comedy series from Michael Cusack, known for co-creating the Adult Swim series “Smiling Friends.” The announcement was made on Wednesday, April 29, 2026, by Variety.
A Suburban Australian Story
Set in suburban Australia, “Dad’s House” centers on 13-year-old Sean, who spends every other weekend with his father, Ian, following his parents’ divorce. The series explores the challenges and humor of a single father attempting to connect with his son, often with complicating results. According to the show’s logline, Ian “has a remarkable gift for making it so much harder than it needs to be.”
Creative Team and Production
Cusack serves as showrunner and executive producer alongside Dario Russo and David Ashby, the duo behind the Australian comedy series “Danger 5” and “Italian Spiderman.” The voice cast includes Cusack, Russo, Ashby, and Felicity Ward, known for her role in the Australian version of “The Office.”
The series is being produced by Princess Pictures and Bento Box Entertainment, the studio responsible for animated comedies like “Bob’s Burgers” and “Paradise PD.”
Expanding Netflix’s Adult Animation Slate
“Dad’s House” joins Netflix’s growing collection of adult animated comedies, including “Haunted Hotel,” “Long Story Short,” “Big Mouth,” and “BoJack Horseman.” The streaming service also has several other adult animated series in development, such as “Mating Season,” “Dang!,” and “Alley Cats.”
‘Smiling Friends’ Concludes
The announcement of “Dad’s House” comes shortly after Cusack and his “Smiling Friends” co-creator, Zach Hadel, announced the conclusion of their Adult Swim series with its recently completed third season.
