Daemen University Releases Strategic Athletics Roadmap Through 2031
Daemen University Athletics released The Wildcat Way: Strategic Vision 2026-31, a five-year plan designed to guide the department’s priorities and competitive growth in Amherst, New York. The roadmap establishes institutional targets for Western New York’s NCAA Division II athletics program, focusing on leadership development and competitive excellence through the end of the decade.
Collaborative Development Behind the Strategic Plan
Working groups comprising coaches, administrators, alumni, and student-athletes drafted the new strategic vision. Traci Murphy, Daemen’s Vice President for Athletics, stated that the planning process evaluated the department’s performance over the preceding five years to set higher standards for the next phase of growth. Every pillar of this plan was shaped by working groups of coaches, administrators, alumni, and student-athletes who reviewed what we accomplished together in the previous five years, celebrated our progress, and challenged us to aim higher,
Murphy said.
The FIERCE Core Values Framework
The strategic document organizes departmental culture around six core values known as the FIERCE framework. The framework prioritizes specific behavioral and operational standards across all athletic programs:
- Fearless: Dedication to a Championship Mindset
- Integrity: Allegiance to Our Wildcat Culture
- Effort: Progressive Communication Strategies
- Respect: Cultivating a Wildcat Community Where Every Member Is Welcomed, Valued, and Belongs
- Commitment: Comprehensive Development of Student-Athletes
- Engagement: Forging an Interconnected Wildcat Community
Infrastructure and Competitive Priorities Through 2031
The plan outlines concrete initiatives across multiple operational areas to support Daemen’s national ambitions. Priorities include enhancing recruiting and competitive resources, developing a comprehensive athletics facility master plan, and expanding academic and leadership development programming. The department also aims to strengthen student-athlete health and wellness services while maintaining fiscal responsibility and institutional accountability.
We enter this next chapter as Daemen University — a university with national aspirations and a Division II athletics program that reflects those ambitions,
Murphy added. We have built something here in Western New York that is worth competing for, and this plan charts the path forward.
